Downing Feb. 23d, 1793.

Dear Sir

I was in hopes of paying my respects to you in the next month, but a severe illness that has attacked my dear little girl will I fear prevent me.  We flatter ourselves that she will do well; but she certainly cannot soon be in a state of travelling so I fear our annually journey will this year be laid aside. 

The enclosed will inform you of the present course of my studies: I have exerted the same activity in the cause of our country as I have in the pursuit of our favorite studies.  Our example has been followed, especially that
