Dear Sir, and Brother
It is reported, and I hope not without sufficient foundation, that you have instituted an enquiry, respecting the ability of the Masters of the Cathedral of Lincoln of demolishing, or destroying any part of that noble Fabric, according to their will, or caprice, and should your endeavors be crowned with success in proving the negative, and wish to discuss the matter in a Court of Law to compel the Risd Demolition to reinstate the Spires, and the suit be carried on by subscription, either in our County alone, or in the Diocese collectively, I beg to be considered as a subscriber in a considerable sum, and should the High Divines be forced to rebuild the two Spires may I be allowed to suggest the Idea of erecting a suitable, and proportionable Spire to the other two on the middle Tower, and thereby rendering the tout ensamble of the whole pile compleat, as it was when the last addition in height was made tot he three Towers, the expense of this, I conceive, might be easily defrayed by a tryfling subscription in the Diocese, I have the honor to subscribe myself
