Sir,

From an Application which I made to Dr. Maskelyne and to Comsr. [Commissioner] Hope R.N to obtain a situation on board the Ship Investigator now Destind [destined] to proceed on a voyage of Discovery's, Was by those Gentl. informd [informed] that the Royal Societty under your direction appointed to all Civil Departments.

Have therefore taken the Liberty of making this Application to you when should any situation Remain open among the subordinate ones, in the Writing Department &ct. I flatter myself I could give satisfaction to any Gentl. who might require such an assistant.
