Dear Sir

     I delayed answering your obliging letter of the 29th of july, and at the same time thanking you for interesting yourself so effectually respecting the Cambridge garden, till I could acquaint you how the matter was settled.

     I took the liberty of communicating your letter to the Governors of the Botanic Garden; and, after taking some time to deliberate, they dismissed me with carte blanche to act as I thought best for the interest of the garden.  I therefore lost no time in writing to Mr. Aiton, who called upon me here last monday,
