welded on when the rods arrive at the place of their destination & no more others bars used than the depth requird may make necessary in all either case the best may be cut off & used for any other purpose when the boring is finishd & if the joints etc are kept safe other bars may on any future occasion be added welded on them & the rods again compleated refitted.
I conclude that there are in always must be enough of Iron bores of inch & Quarter in New South Wales for a temporary application of this nature. I therefore Recommend to the Honorable board to order the Taps & Screws & only & as soon as I am favord with the determination of the board I will immediately set Mr. Wapshot to work.
I should be glad also to know in what manner you only have the rods should be forwarded to the Porpoise & to whom directed, or whether as the weight is so considerable, you will not rather choose to send them out in a whaler now in the River in which I understand Capt Gov King intends to proceed.
