H.M.S Investigator in dock at Portsmouth June 10, 1801
Yesterdays post brought me an order from the Admiralty to go into the harbour, get the ship into dock and her defects repaired; and to return to Spithead with all expedition.
I this morning came into harbour and into dock, and if the Investigator wants as little doing to her as I think she does, she will head again tomorrow, and most probably at Spithead again in time for me to report her to the Admiralty by tomorrow night.
I was afraid of docking the ship in her present state, but the builders &c here assure me there is nothing to be feared. I wait, Sir Joseph, with anxiety for your answer to my last, and am with the highest respect and esteem
Your much obliged and obedt. servant
Mattw Flinders
