[Earl of Liverpool (Lord Hawkesbury) letter to Sr Joseph Banks, Bt., President, Royal Socy.  12 Feb. 1794.]

Lord Hawkesbury  presents his Compliments to Sr Joseph Banks.  It appears by the proceedings of the National Convention, that France is very much in want of Saltpetre, and Barrere has declared in the convention that they have discovered a new method of extracting Saltpetre. It has been suggested to Government that this method is to extract it from Potash, & it is singular that tho' the usual Export of Pot Ash from Great Britain has not been more than 1.203 c. 0 qr.1 lb in three months, the export
