Dear Sr Joseph
The Birds arrived safe & well here yesterday morning. They are at present in a warm stable; but I have prepared a small building, with a flue in it, for them, which opens into an inclusion of an Acre of ground - a similar one is prepared for the Kangaroos.
At present the birds seem to prefer raw cabbage leaves, cut into small pieces to boiled beans or other food. They eat out of my hand & are very engagingly tame. We shall take great care of them. Their feet answer to the description of Cassawaries, but their heads are more like Ostriches. When I am more acquainted with their habits I will send you the particulars. Lady Exeter wishes with me in many thanks for this noble & unique present & with our best Compl to Lady Banks & Miss Banks I remain dear Sir Joseph
Your much obliged & faithful Ser
