Sir

It is now nearly five Weeks since I wrote to Mr. Bowles making the Proposal to him that you desired: and I waited for his Answer before I wrote to you again.

In consequence of your Letter of yesterdays Date I have just now been with Mr: Bowles again, who says, his Client will pay all the Costs hitherto incurred and something by way of nominal Damages to compromize the Suit: but that he will run the Risk of a Trial rather than pay so large a Sum as £60.
