me with several new Plants, among others a species of Daphne that hanged over the Rocks of Delphis [also spelt Delphi] not far from the Fountain of Castalia.  From Labodea [also spelt Lebadaea] I intended passing thro' Boeotia Macedonia & Thessaly to Thessalonica but Banditts then ravaging that Country & the Plaque at Larissa prevented me.  I sailed from the Piraeus up the Gulph of Negropont [Negroponte] employing some days to examine Delphis a very high mountain in the Peninsular. From thence I went to Mount Athos & from thence to Thessalonica.  From Salonica I made several excursions in to difft. parts of Thessaly but was prevented from going to Olympus by a band of forty robbers who infested that Mountain.  Leaving Thessalonica I sailed down the Archipelago & the Saronic Gulph, & passed over the Isthmus of Corinth into Gulph of Lepanto, to Patras.  The season was now far advanced, the beginning of September, but I made some excursions in the Peloponnesus [also spelt Peloponnese] particularly to Olono [?] the highest mountain.  My catalogue of Greek Plants without including those of Asia Minor amount to upwards of two thousand.  Of these at least three hundred are new Species.  My draughtsman a very ingenious artist who had been employed by Jacquin, has made drawings of upwards of a thousand Plants which will take some years to finish.  I have made also a very large Collection of the Beatty Birds, Fish & Amphibia of Greece
