Dear Sir

I have just received your kind favour of the 1st July 1811, together with Sir J. Metcalfe's letter, to whom I beg you to forward the enclosed answer.  My last letter to you was of the 20th Novbr. 1811, it was accompanied by the Journal of a tour into the desert to the banks of the Euphrates.

It had been my intention to leave Aleppo for Damascus and Egypt in the begining of this year; incessant rains have protracted my journey, but I shall at all events Set out within the next fortnight.   Mr. Barker will furnish me with Some letters of recommendation for Cairo, but I expect to meet by the time of my arrival there with those letters of recommendation from the Afr: Assoc: which I beg'd to have written out for me, and to be informed of the means of drawing my money Supplies.  I have written on that Subject to Sir J. Metcalfe; Mr. Barker in the meanwhile continues to advance me the necessary funds.

I take the liberty of addressing you a chest filled with about 100 Arabic Manuscripts which I beg you to keep in your possession untill my return to England. I suppose it will reach about the month
