I would endeavour to hold the scales as equal as possible between want and fitness: tho I would give it against want and necessity, if fitness does not seem to preponderate - when shall I have done with persecuting my Friend? When I think his patience is quite worn out and I have not another miserable to ask for - Consult Dr Solander upon the subject. It is of much consequence to him to know the abilitys, the defects, the temper of his colleagues. I would not make him unhappy by endeavouring to provide for a person whose cheif recommendation to me is his being unfortunate.
