Sheerness January 24th
1801

Sir

The Investigator being ordered to be fitted at this Port to visit remote parts and Mr. Flinders having informed me of your Intention of seeing the Ship before she sails, I beg leave to say in a very very small return for the many civilities I have received from you - that you will do me great honor in making my house your home during your stay at Sheerness - I have a Bed for you - another for your friend and can accommodate your servant.  Should you not like to come from Chatham by Land give me timely notice and I will have a vessel at Chatham to receive you - and bring you to Sheerness.  I sincerely hope you are in perfect health and allow me to

remain your much
obliged humble Servant
