Sir

I send you by the Albion a very fine bitch Native pup, which is between 3 & 4 months old.  As they will follow one in the same manner as as the Common Dog, I presumptuously thought, I could train them up so as to prevent them from worrying fowls &c but I found this was in vain.  It seems to be much quicker in scenting its prey than the common Dog, and I think an hybrid breed might be usefully employed in hunting - I do not make the least doubt of their breeding with the common dog by the two species playing so familiarly with each other - and rather think that the hybrids would also breed.  For are all the variety of dogs which come under the species familiaris are really the offspring of one race?  It is more dainty in its food than the common dog - I say dainty, because it will refuse what the other will eat - But raw flesh, fowls guts & bones &c it is more ravenous after than the common dog and a butchers Slaughterhouse would afford it the most agreeable food.  From this I have attributed the reason why they are not be broken from killing fowls.  May not the formation of the stomach be somewhat different from the common dog's, or does it proceed from idiosyncrasy?  It is more playsome than the common dog and more shy of strangers - Does not bark, but yet when playing with another dog (ours) I have oftentimes noticed it to have a kind of yelping bark.  During the time I have had it, it has much changed its color.
All the time I have been in the country I never knew an instance of the natives bringing so many in as
