July 1st 1805

Sir

Your letter dated August 30 1804 came to hand on the 11th of June 1805.  My lost papers directed to you were by Mr Brown in the Investigor [Investigator], which sailed from here on the 23rd of May last. Various have been the reports relative to the state of the ship, but I should be sorry to hear that any of his impressive collection should have sustained any injury; however, if the ship happens to prove wet, the method that he has used in the packing will be of great security.

I have enclosed a list of receipts according to your request.  The receipt of £95.12.5 was for the total sum of what had been advanced during my residence in the Colony.  The Bill for £26.4 was for the total sum of what had been advanced afterwards, but I shall forbear saying any more of receipts here, but refer you to the list. For to give you a full account of all the proceedings and relative to such on the alterations of Gov Kings mind is really more than I could inform you by the pen and but of little consequence when known.

My opinions falling into your hands give me great satisfaction.  Was the like to be done again, they would be doubled, but it is not my intention to attempt the like any more.  What I shall have to state in the future will be in person, if you wish for such information.
