May 13 1803

Sir

I have signed three different receipts worded as follows,

Received from His Excellency Governor King between April 1800 & the 12th of May 1801, the sum of Ninety five pounds, Twelve shillings, and Five pence, on account of the Right Honble Sir Joseph Banks Bart. for wages due to me, which I request may be paid into the hands of James Sykes Esqr by Sir Joseph Banks after deducting such sums as may appear to be paid on that account/

George Caley

The Gov. some time ago spoke sharpish to me if I knew how matters stood between him and me.  I told him it was what I ought, & particularly on my own part, as if he had presented all the receipts that I had given, it he would appar receive £19 add more than what he had advanced me.  On looking over his accounts he only knew of two that he had presented, but as he could not find the different receipts that I had given, gives me reason to suspect that they have been presented to you.

I should imagine that he will present with the above receipt a statement of the articles to the above amount, in which you will see he says he has not kept a correct account  of what he has advanced me.
