Sir

I have the honour of inclosing for your use an account of the Chinese Dinasties which you requested of Mr Morrison.  He arrived at Canton, in an American ship - the Trident, early in September last.  Sr Geo Staunton, to whom you was pleased to give him a letter of introduction, received him kindly, & promised to render him every service in his power.

Mr Morrison's journal is but just come to hand.  I will take care to select what is worth your notice & transmit it, ere long.

I inclose also a Fac Simile of a letter from Pomare the King (as he wishes to be called) of Otaheite [Tahiti].  The tendency that his learning to write, & the imitation of his doing so among his peoples towards Civilization is pleasing.  The original letter is superior to the Fac Similes.

I am Sir
Yr obed & obliged Sert
