grossly attacked, whilst they are at the distance of many Thousand Miles on the Public Service, and have in consequence no opperting of defending themselves.

It is not my intention to enter into any discussion relative to the proceedings of the Officers and others concerned in the arrest of Governor Bligh.  On this subject, acts will speak for themselves when they come to be investigated.  My concern is of a more private nature ;  and though a Youth, I should deem myself an unworthy Son of a much honored Father if I could see his name traduced in a public paper as an uncendiary without saying what I know to be true namely, that Mr. Washington's insinuation is an atrotius calumny.  If Mr. McArthur has at any time differed in opinion with the Governors of New South Wales, I have no hesitation in asserting that upon a strict investigation of every such difference, it will be found that the welfare of the Colony and the honor and prosperity of his Majesty's Government have invariably influenced his conduct.  Surely, therefore upon an event in which he is no otherwise a party than from having suffered much personal injury and violent persecution, under Governor Bligh's Government, while, pursuing the same clear and honorable line of conduct the assertions of an individual, actuated by motives which are at present beyond detection, must fail in biassing an impartial Public.  The Official discussion of the late transactions in New South Wales will in due time place them before the public.  Until then, Men of discernment will
