My Dear Sir Joseph
I have had another letter from the HRH the Princess Dowager of Orange who says that the Pines were most excellent, & that she regaled the King, the Queen, & all the Royal family upon them. She further says that the Queen Pine certainly is the sort she prefers, that they have them in Holland but that they are far inferior to the English, the fruit being much smaller & the Crown much larger. This HRH attributes either to the soil or, (which she thinks more probable) to the manner of cultivating them, & she therefore commands me to say that you would add to the obligations you have already laid her under, if you would be kind enough to find her thro' me some memorandum, (in English) of the manner in which your Gardener mana[ges]
