Sir,

Having been honored with your letter of the 17th instant respecting Plants on Board of five ships, lately arrived from India, I made immediate application to the Board of Customs for them, and received orders to have them Brought for Examination; upon which, I sent Mr Benjn Christopher & a Mr Andrews, an officer Belonging to the East India warehouses for them; They went first to the Triton, But neither Captain Parson or the gardiner being on Board, the commanding officer could not deliver any plants to them.

They then went on Board the Henry Dundas, and were informed that the plants that were put under the care of Mr Suter the Surgeon, died on the Passage, & were thrown over board, three or four months ago.  

They next proceeded to the Hindostan.  The surgeon was not on Board, But were informed that all the plants that lived to come home had been  sent up on the 17th Instt & delivered to Mr Rose, in george street.  

They then proceeded to the Ceres, & Brought up from that ship one case with sundry living plants in it, and a garden pot with a single plant that appeared dead.  Captain Wilson of the Warley called upon me & said he had some plants on board part of which were intended for you; these I sent for & delivered them last Saturday at your house, there were in all seven packages but some of them appeared dead.  I
