Honr Sir
I ask pardon for taken this liberty Being acquainted with Mr Au, late Servant to Lewis & Graefer at my Nursery at Kingsland went out with Comodore Thompson some fourteen months past, when we made him a preasent of a Box of our Patent prepared Vegetables to take out with him, who on his return acknowledged the favour & expressed the great utility he found in them when in hott Climates. & believes the patent Vegetable the greatest antiscorbutic yet found, for they frequently Cut their Beef & Poark in Slises & Stewed the Vegetable all together which had the desired cooling nourishing, palate, as tho fresh out of the English Gardens, and as there are a great number of Troops & Transports going for Bottany Bay, (the Transports in particulear cannot be surposed to be in perfect Health) owing to their close confinement; I therefore submit it to your superior judgment this Valuable article was shipt with them (on so long a passage), would not be a great preservation against that (Dearth Scurvy) by which many Thousands of our Bravest Sea men have fell. I believe more than by the Sword, (am sorry Mr Graefer did not Perform his promise), to acquaint you that he had made over the patent for drying the Vegetables, Soley to me. If these should be so happy as to meet your approbation; I shall then rejoice that so valuable an acquisition is not Lost Carrd over
