moving in the Bushes. We advanced hastily & were surprized at seeing a young native who was looking for the roots of Fern. When we came near, thought himself conceald from us, in one of the holes he had dug to get these roots, his head was coverd & his body entirely Exposed & motionless as a stump of a Tree, but the beating of his heart & the trembling of his muscles betrayed his fright - it was with great difficulty we could make him get up and by signs to convince him we intended him no harm.  At last recovering himself a little he came to me & rubbing my left shoulder softly with his right hand he repeated several times the word Cambai, Cambai.  I know not whether he solicited my protection, or indicated his alarm.  Soon after we being engaged in very thick underwood, he slipd away without being noticed.

Among the articles sent to S Jos. Banks you will see a new species of Cockatoo - his head & Crown Red & his plumage blue. I hope in time to send you one alive.
