Cape of Good Hope Novr. 9 1787
Dear Sir
I am now leaving this place, & have desired Mr. Mason to assure you that I shall take every opportunity of forwarding seeds & plants to him, for you, after I arrive on the Coast of New South Wales. I have likewise desired him to inform himself respecting the Mountain of Nitre, which is many days journey up the Country, & of which I can learn no more, than that it is a Mountain every part of which burns.
I hope you received the few plants I was able to procure at Rio de Janeiro & think that the Court of Portugal would not refuse a Botanist, permission to travel thro' that Country.
You will, Sir, make my Compts. acceptable to the Ladys of your family, & believe me very sincerly
Your Oblig'd
& Most Obedient
Humble Servant
A Phillip
