[Page 1]

Honoured Sir,

Permit I pray a stranger, and am humble servant to address you.  As I do not know that I have the happiness of being personally known to any of your acquaintances, I am induced to the necessity of being my own Sollicitor.  Hearing of your intended Voyage it has made me extreamly anxious of seeing more of the World, then has hitherto fallen to my lot ; and it would make me happy if I might be permitted to become one of the number of your attendants. - To fill up any department, or otherwise to discharge any trust that may be required of me, I will promise, dilligence and fidelity. -  Perhaps it may be pertinent to remark, that I am no Seaman.

I am Sir, Your most Obedt
& hble Servt
R. Prescott
