We left Devenport about 14.00 and after a long stay at the entrance of the harbour passed the Eddystone Lighthouse on the Port side about 16.00.  The ships siren was blowing almost [continuously?] from then to about midnight as the fog was very thick.  Occasionally an answering blast would be heard from a passing steamer.  The sea has been very calm.  One of the crew told me that it is generally very calm whilst the fog lasts as when
