A Puzzle. [Reading from the right hand side first]
A man went into a bar & said to the barman & said "Give me as much as I have got & I will spend 6d. He had a drink & went to another hotel with the same request. He had a drink and went to the third hotel with the same request. He had a drink and then had no money left. How much did he have at the start?
Answ 5 ¼ d.
1. 5 ¼ double = 10 ½ - 6 = 4 ½
2. 4 ½ " = 9- 6 = 3d
3. 3d " = 6- 6 = 0

How far was it?
The steamer was able to go 20 miles an hour downstream but could only do 15 miles an hour upstream. So, of course, she took 5 hours longer in coming up than in going down. What was the distance from point to point?
