27th. Dave Mason took a small patrol out last night but never saw any of the Hun's.

This morning I took an inventory of all our Posts & bombs & 303 ammunition. Our mortar battery landed 2 bombs almost in our trench this morning. I reported the matter to the Capt.

From where I am writing this I can see "Messines" hill quite plain it is a fine position for it overlooks the country for miles around. I think the "London Scottish" took it last year, & about 200 yards behind me is the famous International trench so called on account of its being taken & lost so many times by the British
