17/2/17 After a lapse of sometime I record a few instances worth while. we had a very tough time at x first time & also the rain mud and slughs a treat. I joined the batt up again on New years day. We lost C. Ackling our first time up on the lines here, in fact all the coorp's were caught, but so far C.A is the only one who has died from his wounds a lot of people seem to think that the end of this war will soon come now. I hope they are right, for I'm sure nearly everybody is pretty full of it now. We have found it very cold here but to-day it is not to bad. I think last light is the first night it missed freezing for sometime consequently the mud is beginning to get about again but I suppose we shall have more snow before long, anyhow france under different circumstances might be alright. Some of the 10th Batt fatigue party had casualties last night 3K & 4W it is roumored that the 3rd Bgde go over the top to-night to take a trentch, went to canteen to-day, expect to hear shortly good news re- war.
18/2/17 Have heard nothing about the charge last night; hear now that it was the 2nd Bgde that went over. I thought this strange, for the 3rd Bgde are now on our old front, and if there was anything doing, our guns would have woke me up, it is very muddy again & to make it worse it rained a little last night. went to Ftry Cr this morning it was very foggey to start with, but the fog lifted a good deal by the time we got to Cgh Dr we thought we be caught but the fog came on again, it lifted and fell all day. got back about 1/2 past 12 o'clock The ground along this valley has been shelled a lot & he as found the line in a lot of places. never went out last night, it was quiet.
19/02/17 Foggy again this morning hear that we are in here untill the 6th of next month. if we are I think we must be going into the line before we go out went to Ftry Cr this morning had a bad trip started shelling after we left, things are fairly quiet except for occasional shells hear that some of the 3 Bde and some of the 2 Bde are being releived to-night this must finish our Div done no trip last night.
