H. E. Gissing was a pharmacist engaged as a Field Ambulance Station dispenser working behind the front line in France and Belgium in WW1. This diary covers the period from April 10th 1917 and an offensive north of Arras, France and finishes September 22nd across the Belgian border. It gives an idea of the life of an ambulance officer's day-to-day activities running a Field Ambulance Station out of the firing line on the Somme.]
