Entry

11th. Sept. 1917 A beautiful calm day, sun shining brightly. calm.  Have just come in from giving instructions in firing Hales No 20 Rifle Grenades & Mills No. 23 with a 10 inch rod.

Last night we marched a mile across country in our box respirators.  

Entry 19/9/17 In tent at Staples. We arrived by motor bus yesterday. I am Battalion Orderley Officer today.

The people at L- treated us very well & were really sorry when we were leaving.

We had a Bn. dinner on 13/9/17 at L-  a very decent affair.

Wrote home to J today.  Received letter from George.

20/9/17 In tent shelter at Steenvoorde, West of Ypres. A terrific cannonading is going on this evening west, north west & South of us.

The people here are Flemish & cannot understand French. In fact, although
