30th Dec 1916
on Board train Bound for amiens

at 6 this morning we left the Docks Rest Camp and marched to Havre Railway Station through a heavy downpour of rain needless for me to say that we received a drenching. I am writing this in the train at some wayside Station and it is still Raining I have just come to the conclusion that this country was made for Ducks to live in not men. Well my trip to the old country is now at an End. But it is one that I will always be able to look back with the fondest memories I was in England Scotland and lastly But the best of all was Ireland. Some day if god Spares me, I will go again
