Still awaiting orders. Troop decks washed & fumugated, decks partly caulked & necessary repairs to the Engins.

Orders this day to be ready for a trip to Bombay.

Took in the Canal searchlight & all ready for departure for Suez to embark troops.

16.4.19
1 p.m. left Port Said in charge of a pilot for Suez. At 11 p.m. at Ismalia we changed pilots & proceeded to Suez. Whilst passing the Australian Camp off Cantara the Australians kept shouting along the banks, where bound are you going to Ossie. Come over here & take us aboard, 4 years of misery. Give our love to Billy Hughes and so on.

At 6 a.m. arrived & anchored at Suez Bay. At 11 a.m. took in 1000 Indian troops & officers a few civilians & about a 100 returned Turkish offeces & men who had been prisnors of war at Egypt. The Japaneese destroyers our former escort came through the canal & departed for Japan with 4 German submarines, 2 had 1 6 inch gun & a 3 inch. At 9 p.m. we departed for Bombay.

Fine weather prevailed. At 6 a.m. we passed & overtook the German submarines under escort of the Japaneese destroyers. They were steaming about 10 knots per hour. We exchanged greetings & left them well behind. We are averaging 15 knots per hour. At Suez a few hours before we sailed the Nestor & another Blue Funnel steamer arrived from Australia also the Orient Royal mail liner Osterley
