All the chaps are utterly worn out; it sure was a big stunt. Many of the fellows are missing but they will doubtless turn up tomorrow. We will move off this evening.
27/7/16.
The mob were singing as they marched through Albert last night. Bivouaced on the heights behind the town; where we got overcoats and lay down till daylight. Then I noticed that the chaps were gravely saluting me, and discovered that I was wearing some Captain's overcoat with three stars on the shoulder straps. I have been a captain for nonce. We had a roll call; 16 Platoon mustered 23 men. Then we marched on to camp in the wood at Contay. There
