11th May 1916
Left Sydney for the front by SS Argyllshire. Saw Rana Joyce Bill & Reg before embarking. Did not see anyone else I knew. Rather downhearted. A splendid day but rather a sad one. At present off Wollongong in a smooth sea. 820 km 5 hours away from old Sydney Town.

12th May 1916
First day at sea. Very fine day with smooth sea. Off Eden 9 oclock. Green Cape passed 10 oclock. Last sight of N.S.W. (Gabo Island) at 11.45 am. Whale & porpoises about all day. Wrote letters for mail.

13th May 1916
Saturday today. A very rotten day Windy & dull. Our battery on duty. Holystoning &amp
