(now at Dieran) came down to convey us & our equipment from Esdud. At shelter last night & at 10 am this morning we were en route. The road is frightfully cut up & muddy from the recent rains through which the springless lumbers bumped & ploughed a foot deep in mud, coming towards us are numerous groups of the tiniest donkeys imaginable laden with great sacks of oranges. Their Bedouin owners are dressed in wonderous colors & look far more capable of conveying the loads than the donkeys. It is astounding what these donkeys will carry.
