Commander & the general convenience of the expedition their word will be perpetually vented for the use of the fire engine & they cannot be processed without an opportunity being afforded for the the business of collecting, the commander will however if any thing occurs to make a landing on a particular spot very desireable[sic], pay all possible every proper attention to the representation of the different collections made to him on the occasion.
As collector your province will be to preserve the figure of the animals you collect for the purpose of description & delineation with the internal parts you will have no concern you are therefore always to recollect that Mr Tudor one of your companions is engaged as a comparative anatomist whose business it is to examine the internal structure of all kinds of animals you are therefore to give him every assistance in your power by supplying him with the entrails of all these animals he wishes to examine as fresh as is possible & in case he has occasion to make further search to endeavour to procure further compleat[sic] specimens of what he has occasion for, to be disposed of as he may think proper for the advancement of comparative anatomy.
You are to keep a regular journal of all things that occur happen to you mentioning in it every remarkable circumstance in your line of collection that noting in it the particulars that occur when any extraordinary animal or other is seen or obtained & specially remarking the place where it was found & any thing remarkable concerning it which you are fortunate enough to discover. This journal must on your return be delivered to the Admiralty to enable the office if it is deemed expedient & publish an account of the discoveries made in the voyage when this
