I will add a Sketch of a Hothouse as this is usually built with a dotted line marking what I conceive to be the proper Form; with a smaller [indecipherable] of Glass, the whole of the upright Light in Front being taken away.

In this plan it is intended that the Surface of the pit should be parallel with the dotted line which marks the proper Elevation of the Roof. The Front of the pit must be of Course depressed somewhat below the level of the Brick-work of the Sides & Front; but this will produce no injurious Effects whatever to the pine plants: the Brick-Work must also be sunk deep into the Ground. A House thus constructed, I venture to say, will not only be built at less Expence & kept properly warm with less Fire; but will also produce
