Our apple trees are in a most calamitous state, having almost wholly lost their leaves by the attacks of countless kinds of grubs of various Species; & we can scarcely entertain a Hope of a good Crop in less than 2 years. Our old people uniformly say that the Trees were not subject to these attacks so frequently as they lately have been: are not some of these Insects of imported Species. The leaves of my Mongrel Siberian Crabs, from being very early are too hard, for them, & therefore, so far have [indecipherable] that they will blossom well next year.
