A Gentleman

is to his Equals Neighbourly
Obliging to the yeomanry
X Civil Gentle to all the Peasantry
Noted for hospitality
Beneficent to Poverty
Alive to heaven born charity
A father to his tenantry
incapable of Barrattry

1

Do this & your attendant muse
Who acts with honorable views
The Little ode will Burn
but if you longer persevere
to vex your neighbors far & near
She'l vex you in return

2

She has the means your Pride to humble
how much so ere you fret & grumble
if she but raise her voice
She'l crush your arrogance to dust
or make you gentle kind & Just
She offers you the choice
