[Alternative version of the letter on Page 1 - crossed through]

Sir
in obedience to the Commands of the Lords Commissions of his magesties Treasury transmitted to me in your Letter of June 22 1798 I proceeded to provide immediately such fruit trees usefull plants & seeds as I [indecipherable] to wanting in his majesty Colony of New South Wales as also the necessary tools for a Gardiner who on condition of having his passage as a settler of that Colony provided for undertakes the care of the garden without Salary or allowance for so doing  I have continued since that time to correspond with the Gardner G Suttor respecting the care of them & have taken care to replace such of them as died during the delay that took place in the equipment of the vessell
Enclosed is an account of the monies which in obedience to their Lordships Commands have expended in this business by which it appears that the care taken by G Suttor the Gardener has been unremitting & very meritorious as is evident from the small loss that has happend among the Plants notwithstanding the variety & often dangerous situations in which they have been under his Care for the time of 17 months October 1798 to March 1800  I take the liberty therefore to Recommend him to the [indecipherable] of their Lordships for some small allowance as a reward for his industry
