My dear Sir

After a delay which I conclude you have attributed to its real cause the confusion into which every branch of government was thrown by the vote which obligd Ld. Melville to Resign the Admiralty I have at least put your offering into motion again.

As I was satisfied in a Conversation I had with Mrs Bligh that the appointment would be acceptd agreable to her & to you I have statd to Ld. Camden the probability in my opinion of your accepting it in consequence of which I recd on saturday Sunday a Letter from his Lordship informing me that he had resolvd & Promisd you & his Majesty for the Government & to order the Proper instruments to be prepard without delay.                

Your Salary of £2000 a year must be subject to the income tax which at 7½ per ct. will take from it £150 a year but in compensation for this you will be Commodore in Cheif of all his Majesties ships on the Station with full Pay of some kind, the rest I can procure for you when a new first Lord is appointd.  Philip had the Pay of a Port Captain, Hunter & King Receivd only the appointment of a Commander but I shall Labor to obtain the first for you.

The fees upon your Commission as Governor General which all governors are obliged to Pay will be few.  I hope that is the worst news I have to tell you in Return.  I have proposed that the Salary of the Governor shall be paid as soon as your Commission has Rated at £2000 a year & that £1000 of it shall immediately become payable to you & the whole Salary as soon as you take charge of the Government, this will if obtaind be an advantage which few Governors have Ever been Lucky enough to procure.

Beds Linnen Plate Table Furniture must be Provided here but as you will not have any Steeping Company to [Provide] [nor] that are not used [& are left] this will not be an
