Copy of a Letter sent to Col:l Brownigg

Sydney New South Wales
March 11th, 1802

Sir

In Consequence of His Excellency Governors King having sent Cap.t John  McArthur to England, he considers it necessary that an Officer of Trust and confidence should take charge of his dispatches, in case any farther [further] Explanation should be wanted for his having sent that Officer - I have given the Bearer Lieut.t McKellar permission at the Governor's Request to leave the Colony for that purpose.   I have also charged him with my Letters to you for His Royal Highness the Commander in Chief's Information - Lieut.t Mc Kellar has acted as Governor King's Aid-de-Camp during his Command - He also did the Duty of Adjutant until the arrival of Adjutant Minchin, and has in every Situation conducted himself with the Strictest honor and Propriety.

His Excellency Governor King's Recommendation to His Majesty's principal Secretary of State is such, that I have no doubt of his obtaining that promotion the Governor Solicits, and which Lieut.t McKellar very justly merits - I take the Liberty of giving this Testimonial which my long knowledge of him properly justifies.

I have the Honor to be
Sir,
Your most obedient humble Servant
