Head Quarters 12th October 1807

Sir,

I have had the honor of receiving Your Excellency's Letter of this morning, I shall ever be happy in forwarding Your Excellency's wishes when they appear so truly calculated to promote that harmony & good understanding, which is above every end the most desireable in this remote part of the world.

According to Your Excellency's recommendation, Captain Kemp shall this day be ordered to his duty, conformable to his Rank - but I must not omit stating to Your Excellency that, when Captain Kemp went to Port Dalrymple, it was at his own particular request to accompany Colonel Paterson, and that it is not customary in the army, for Officers to be indulged by going on a Duty at their own desire and out of their Tour, to give them any reward as an acknowledgement for their services.  If therefore Your Excellency considers that,
