Honorable Gentlmen

At last Kent who has been at considerable expence in procuring & bringing over the Cassowaris for the delivery of which I petitiond your Honours yesterday myself to whom the Captain has given them & the Marquis of Exeter to whom I have Presented them are I trust wholly free from any suspicion of an interest to derive profit in any way from the Posession of these birds and as the sole motive by which all of us have been induced to meddle concern ourselves intermediate with them is a desire to embellish our native country & increase the Resources of our Country even in the article of animal Feed & Possibly of some manufacture by the introduction of one of the finest animals of the Southern Hemisphere.  I am in hopes your honors will on Recomendation determine to Remit the duty & ad valorem which I am told you have orderd to be served upon them.

In case however that your honors do not think this expedient I beg leave this day to request that your honors will order search to be made & information given to me Relative to the Value that has been put & the rate paid on the Cassowaries of the [indecipherable] elements which have been
