Sir

You who are acquainted with the real Motives of your man declining an Engagement, which till your absence from London you always appear'd to me to sollicit with Eagerness, are alone able to determine upon the propriety of your Conduct, I shall offer no arguments on the Subject, but I cannot help observing that, as in all my former Transactions with you I never noticed you to be more than properly attentive to pecuniary Considerations, I am astonish'd to find your Enthusiasm dampt by the small difference between the Pay you had taught yourself expect, and that really offer'd to you because
