With respect to the latter part of your Letter, I cannot comprehend it, as besides prior instances of similar treatment, you did about forty eight hours before reprimand. Mr Jackson the Master of this Ship on the Porpoise's Quarter Deck (who informed me of it) while you knew that he as well as yourself was subject to my controul according to the orders above stated; and threatened him in case he went before your Beam to fire a Shot first across his Forefoot, then into him, and if that would not do you would fire a whole broadside.
This surely does not correspond with offers of accommodation, or friendly conduct towards me Captain of the Porpoise and your superior Officer, who of your Wife and large Family's situation with you, takes every consideration. I am Sir
