in answer to the questions which you proposd to me yesterday concerning the webbs which are now so abundant on the Hedges about this metropolis I certain can inform you from my particular knowledge with certainty that they are caused by the caterpillers which were hatched in the course of the preceeding Autumn from eggs layd by a small moth which in every year to be found but last Autumn was uncommonly abundant in many parts of the Kingdom owing probably to a succession of dry seasons favorable to its increase
This Caterpiller begins its depridation as soon as born & by a beautifull
