Having  Communicated to Ld H your Letter of yesterday on the subject of the Release of Capt Flinders I am desired by his Lordship to Observe to you that after Capt Milius had been allowd to Return to France he was extremely surprised to hear that you had written to the French Senator La Cepede Stating that he had Obtaind his Liberty in Consequence of your interference, the Circumstance never having been mentiond to his Lordship & his Consent to that officers Release having been grantd upon a Representation from Sir R George of the State of his health

The Last messenger from Ld Paris brought a Private Letter from  Ld [indecipherable] stating to Ld Howick stating that Capt Milius had been allowd to negotiate his Exchange for any officer now in France of Equal Rank & that in Consequence Ld his Lordship had named Capt Brenton

His Lordship desires me to add that both before & after since the Release of Capt Milius so many officers have been allowd to Return to Return to France on their Parole
