Dear Sir                                               

It gives me infinite pains to hear that you & your Capt have had a dispute which has been carried to the Length you mention, I shall not pretend to be a judge of the merits of a case which has led to such serious consequences till I have heard both sides the Statements of both parties but you maybe assurd that in case a warmth of Temper on your side has been the only reason of so violent a revenge severe a conduct as that of the Capt, tho I may not consider your conduct as quite prudent, you will not lose an atom of the friendship I have always felt for you.

Instantly on the Receipt of yours I wrote to Mr Nepean per se of the Admiralty & stated as much of your case as I could & I shall not fail to take all the pain in my power to bring the matter to a favorable issue.  I asked also for orders to be sent to you respecting your journals whether they are to be delivered to me or to the board which you will bo doubt receive.

I am at present unluckily in the Country where I shall be obligd to continue about a month Longer. in the meantime I shall always get your Letters if directed to me on Soho Square & will use all diligence on Corresponding with you.  Nothing I Conclude material can be done before that time except the removal of the plants on which subject I mentioned
