My dear Sir

The alteration I propose in the undertaking of the scientific men who are to be employd in the Investigator is relative to the property scetches the draughtsmen may make during the their employment voyages in my original draught I proposed "that all such scetches without exception should be the property of the Public," this was objected to & I think with reason & it was suggested that many scetches especialy slight ones would be made in the progress of the business of little of any no importance to the Public tho of great value to the Draughtsmen for the Activation of their own Talents.

I propose therefore to substitute that all such drawings as shall be finishd during the voyage & all such scetches as their Lordships shall order to be finishd after the Return of the ship to England shall
